Your Log of Evidence contained wonderful pictures of the wide variety of activities you engaged with this year. I particularly compliment you on the establishment of a Chess Club. The involvement of the “whole school” was evident in your projects – you did some very comprehensive timetabling for such a big school to ensure everyone participated in the three day event with Bricks4kids. I loved that you paired Grandparents Day with science activities – I’m sure you had many interesting comments on changing times! Well done on acquiring funding that included teacher training as well as resources. You also took advantage of the Curious Minds training. This evidences that you consider your whole school community to be STEM learners – what an achievement!
The Platinum Award requires not only a wide range of STEM activities but also a change to the culture and attitude in the school. Your pre and post award surveys and the comments from your students, the staff and the parent/guardian body clearly indicate that this has happened. Your realization of the importance of using the skills of outside agencies and events to support the school’s STEM development is wonderful – I’m delighted that you plan to continue this.
I mentioned your chess club - its wonderful to see a school community recognize and avail of new learning opportunities and chess is a great way to encompass many STEM skills.
You mentioned well-being and confidence as important aspects of cross curricular activities and illustrated it with some recording of the students describing a school visit. Well done. This is an avenue of showcasing that you could explore further in the future.
