Social Story – A Teams Call With Teacher

When books are being collected from the school at the prescribed times for each class level during the week beginning Jan 11th, each pupil will receive a username and password which will allow them access to Microsoft Office365 – this online resource will allow each child access a range of Microsoft features such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (email) and Microsoft Teams.

MONDAY  

  1. Jolly Phonics Sounds Folder:

-Revise each sound in the Sound bag.      New sound today  ‘z’

-Cut out the ’z ’ sound and put it into the ‘Sounds bag’ along with the sounds that we have already learnt in school)

-Encourage your child to put some of the sounds together and try to make some short words e.g. zip, zag, zed etc

-Practice the name of each sound and the sound that the letter makes

-Encourage your child to think of words which begin with the ‘z ’  sound e.g. zoo, zip, zero, zig-zag (The Sound Folder will help with this activity – have a chat about the picture

  1. Tricky Words  New word  ‘one 

-Cut out the word ‘one ’ & put it into the Tricky Word Folder

-Encourage your child to put the word ‘one’ into sentences and to make the word using their letters in their sound folder e.g. ‘I have two eyes and one nose / My nan has one dog and he is called Ben. ‘

-Revise all words in the Tricky Word Folder every night.

-These words need to be learnt as a sight word i.e. when your child sees these words he/she needs to say these words immediately. These words cannot be sounded out.

-Read the words on page 10 this week. Read some words every night.  Encourage your child to put the words into a sentence to enhance comprehension and improve sentence structure.

-Use the sounds in the Sounds Folder to make some of the words also.

  1. Jolly Phonics Word Book pg. 12 - If your child has a whiteboard at home he/she can practice writing some of the words on it. He /she can also make some of the words using playdoh if you have it at home.

WEDNESDAY  

  1. Jolly Phonics Sounds Folder:

-Revise each sound in the Sound bag.      New sound today   ‘w 

-Cut out the ’w’ sound and put it into the ‘Sounds Bag’ along with the sounds that we have already learnt in school)

-Encourage your child to put some of the sounds together and try to make some short words e.g.web, wet, wig, wag etc using the sounds in their sound folder.

- Practice the name of each sound and the sound that the letter makes e.g. w says ‘wwwwww’

-Encourage your child to think of words which begin with the ‘w’  sound e.g. wheel, witch, watch, window ”      (The Sound Folder will help with this activity – have a chat about the pictures on the pages with the ‘’w’  sound)

  1. Tricky Words: New word  ‘by

-Cut out the word ‘by’ & put it into the Tricky Word Folder

-Encourage your child to put the word ‘by’ into sentences and to make the word using their letters in their sound folder e.g. ‘I go to school by bus. I left my bicycle by the gate.

-Revise all words in the Tricky Word Folder every night.

-These words need to be learnt as a sight word i.e. when your child sees these words he/she needs to say these words immediately. These words cannot be sounded out.

Oral Maths   The Number 8

  • -Count up to 8 and back from 8.
  • -Use fingers , lego, bricks, teddies etc to make sets of 8.
  • -If your child has play doh at home , make the number 8 using the playdoh.
  • -Trace the number 8 in the air and on the table /floor before writing it on a sheet of paper in different colour
  • Game Simon Says -  play the games doing 8 of each activity e.g. Simon says do 8 star jumps / 8 hops / 8 claps / 8 jumps / 8 taps on your head…etc
